Participants in its 12-week fellowship program learn to report stories on multiple platforms. The program also provides one-on-one coaching, mentoring and interactive seminars. The program is viewed as a top learning opportunity in the industry, and some of the country's top journalists are among its graduates. We are looking for interns to work in the areas of features, breaking news, sports and editorial as well as data visualization and videography.RESPONSIBILITIESFellows will work with breaking news, features, editorial and enterprise content teams to report stories in a fast-paced news environment. That may include reporting, writing, editing, shooting photos and videos and online production. Research, database and investigative work are also possibilities, as is appearing in front of a camera for livestream or in-house video work.• Critical thinking and analytical skills will be encouraged and sharpened.• Fellows will learn forms of alternative storytelling.• Fellows will work independently and as part of a team to provide perspectives and insights for newsroom and companywide projects identified by senior leadership as part of strategic growth initiatives.• Fellows will be called upon to actively participate in daily news meetings with top editors, where they'll learn how news developments take shape and be asked to contribute ideas.REQUIREMENTS• Degree-seeking student currently enrolled at a college or university. Students preferably will have completed two years of college and have previously had at least one internship. Preference is given to more advanced students. Those who have completed undergraduate work are accepted.• Well-organized, detail-oriented, adaptable and flexible.• Excellent communication skills and command of the English language and AP style.• Technical skills required for some visual journalism team jobs, such as video shooting and editing. Videographer interns should demonstrate strong knowledge of digital media conversion and compression for web-based output. Requires excellent PC and Macintosh skills. Candidates should be well-versed in Final Cut Pro and video compression with Sorenson.
