Bluegrass Community Hospital

Essential Functions - this position will report to the Medical Imaging Department

Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.

Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.

Assists with referrals and prior authorizations. Accurately obtains demographic information from patients and accurately updates information.

Maintains confidentiality and protects privacy of healthcare information, security of password and access codes. Adheres to HIPAA and all other applicable federal and state mandates.

Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary. Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.

Nonessential Functions

PI: Participates in ongoing performance improvement for the unit and the organization

Continuing Education: Participates in continuing education for current clinical practice, hospital requirement and licensing requirements

Patient Care: Provides quality patient care, works other than usual shifts as needed, works other than usual areas/units as needed, if qualified for duties required.

Performs other duties as assigned



Job Requirements:

Minimum Education: X High school diploma or equivalent □ Preferred X Required

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Ability to quickly learn how to navigate multiple complex software systemsMust be able to communicate with the ability to read, write, speak and understand English

Excellent customer service skills required

Proficient in data entry

Successful completion of Skills competency Checklist within 90 days of hire

Minimum Work Experience: Previous registration / medical office experience preferred
