Senior Development Scientist

Catalent's Winchester, Kentucky location is the flagship US manufacturing location for large scale complex controlled release (CR) oral dose forms, with integrated analytical and development services. With 20 years of expertise in product development, technology transfers and commercial manufacturing, and roots in industry leading Glatt technology. This site offers newly installed Fluid Beds, expanded analytical labs, and an advanced open facility design that provides flexibility in supporting the requirements of any new customer program.

Position Summary

The Senior Development Scientist is responsible for providing technical expertise to develop robust formulations and processes that will be scaled up to commercial scale. S/he communicates and interacts with customers, planner/buyers, project team members, key Winchester stakeholders and other Catalent sites to ensure each project achieves the established goals. The Senior Development Scientist must be able to work independently, under pressure, and be adept at multi-tasking. A high sense of urgency, attention to detail, and result orientation is required. Experience in developing oral solid dosage forms with expertise in particle coating and fluid bed technologies.

In concert with Catalent's Patient First philosophy, this position is key in our efforts toward continuous improvement of our processes & information which will allow quality drug products to reach patients safely and efficiently.

The Role

  • Work independently to design and execute development projects
  • Work with customers to develop and optimize robust formulations and processes
  • Provide technical/processing assistance to both the client and to the Winchester Manufacturing department.
  • Provide professional customer service (including monitoring of customers in the plant to ensure personal safety and confidentiality)
  • Assist in preparation of timelines, batch records, protocols and other project related documents
  • Provide technical and process-related training to operators, supervisors, and quality personnel that are involved in the project
  • Communicate and coordinate clearly / extensively with customer and other departments to achieve project goals
  • Design, implement, and analyze the design of experiments (DOE) of the assigned projects based on client/project needs
  • Other duties as assigned
The Candidate

Education or Equivalent:
  • Doctorate degree (PhD) and 3+ years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries preferred;
  • Master's degree and 8+ years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries preferred;
  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries; or equivalent education, experience and training
  • Preferred degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Formulation Sciences, Chemical Engineering or Pharmacy
Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience in developing oral solid dosage forms with an expertise in particle coating and fluid bed-technologies
  • Advanced knowledge of particle and tablet coating, fluid bed processing, high shear granulation
  • Ability to translate customer needs and requirements to the operations / manufacturing process in order to support business needs and meet customer deadlines
  • Experience planning, managing and executing complex projects across multiple functions and at times across multiple facilities
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply unfamiliar technical principles and techniques with minimal training
Physical Requirements: Individual may be required sit for extended periods. Specific vision requirements include reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen frequently.
