Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) is a non-profit law firm serving the 22 parishes east of the Atchafalaya Basin. We have offices in Baton Rouge, Covington, Hammond, Harvey, Houma and New Orleans. We provide free civil legal aid to low-income households. SLLS seeks a diverse and dynamic applicant for a two-year, full-time attorney position at our Baton Rouge office as an Equal Justice Works Fellow in the Disaster Resilience Program.

MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Providing direct legal services addressing civil legal issues that arise from COVID-19 and natural disasters to communities affected by disasters - legal screening, advice, brief service, full-scope representation, and pro bono assistance through legal clinics and referrals. a. Specifically in Louisiana, fellows will be focusing their project plan around equitable disaster recovery in the face of COVID-19 with an emphasis on assisting individuals and families in avoiding evictions. 2. Fellow(s) will be responsible for actively contributing to and participating in Disaster Resilience Program cohort activities (resource exchanges; mandatory webinars and conference calls; and training events, including Equal Justice Works Leadership Development Training in fall 2022 and 2023.

Positions require license to practice law in Louisiana and will be full-time, starting salary for a full time staff attorney is $46,000 which increases depending on experience. Bilingualism is a plus that receives extra compensation.
