Organization Overview: Starting as an idea in 2012, Brothers Empowered to Teach (BE2T) provides mentorship, apprenticeship, and pathways to careers in education for Black men through early exposure to teaching and targeted experiences cultivating an organic love of teaching children. We aim to influence the collective education landscape through innovations and paradigm shifts on how to recruit, develop and place teachers overall. Position Overview: BE2T is seeking a full-time Chief of Staff. This role reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for overseeing and managing the essential business activities of the organization (staff, planning, communications, performance management, data, culture, etc.) to ensure that the organization is operating efficiently and effectively while building a thriving work culture. The CoS will support the CEO by collecting and analyzing relevant information from internal and external stakeholders, and providing assessments that prepare the CEO to respond quickly to inquiries and make informed decisions.
Candidates who are comfortable assessing and prioritizing short-term and long-term goals, developing work plans for execution, and ensuring implementation across teams are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be someone who can passionately support our mission, provide detail-oriented project management across organizational functions, and has a background in education and/or nonprofits with a focus on executive-level advising and staff management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Support to the CEO:
- Build and maintain an understanding of the critical work that is happening across the organization and surface strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, including knowledge and skill gaps and help create solutions to address them.
- Work with the Executive Assistant to prepare the CEO with the necessary research, information, materials, and communications to effectively engage with staff, board members, donors, potential donors, partners, and potential partners and when appropriate, serve as proxy.
- Act as strategic thought partner to the CEO, partnering with the CEO to define BE2T's annual and quarterly priorities.
General Organizational Management:
- Coordinate with the CEO around effective communication, execution of tasks, and decision making across the organization.
- Engage with staff on a regular basis and the Board as appropriate to ensure priorities are advanced and work is completed in-line with standards for quality and BE2T's strategic vision.
- Support the CEO in establishing desired outcomes for team meetings, preparing agendas and other materials for team meetings, and managing capture, delegation, and implementation of next steps.
- As necessary, support execution of tasks relevant to programs, finance, development, and marketing.
Internal Systems & Communications:
- Establish and implement clear standard operating procedures throughout the organization, improving current processes and coordinating organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity.
- Develop and implement an internal communication and engagement strategy best suited to communicate key organizational information to staff and Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with Engagement Team to draft internal and external communications on behalf of CEO to keep key constituents informed.
- Maintain effective coordination with programs department, including execution of the administrative aspects of the fellowship program.
- Serve as a liaison between the CEO, staff, and Board of Directors.
Staff & Culture Management
- Work with staff and CEO to assess capacity and maintain an ideal organizational structure.
- Manage hiring processes, onboarding, and internal training.
- Lead the staff performance evaluation process, ensuring the process clearly assesses performance relative to organization-wide key performance indicators and program goals.
- Partner with CEO to maintain a strong team culture that values open communication, flexibility, and dedication, providing CEO and staff with recommendations to improve teamwork.
- Plan and manage organization-wide meetings or retreats, including coordinating details, creating agendas, and managing any presentation materials required.

Experience:
- 7+ years of work experience preferred, with 3+ years of experience in direct management roles
- Experience in project management of multiple initiatives and coordination of resources required
- Experience managing organizational/people operations for a small to mid-sized organization preferred
- Education, nonprofit, and/or mentoring experience preferred
- Supporting C-suite level executives in setting strategy and advancing priorities preferred
Compensation and Benefits: Salary range is $90,000 - $120,000 commensurate with individual's experience. Benefits package included.
This is a full-time position located in New Orleans, LA in a hybrid remote/in-person environment. In-person requirements are subject to change in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.
