This person will be working out of the Kennebunk and/or Tewksbury location.
Scope of Position
The Sr. Cell Biologist will conduct cell-based and biochemical experiments to support the Applications Laboratory for Corning Life Sciences. The incumbent will lead cell growth and harvest optimization procedures to support key single use technology in one of the laboratories in Massachusetts or Maine. The Sr. Cell Biologist will actively participate in the development of suspension and adherent cell culture technologies from Corning Life Sciences.
The incumbent will work with team members to establish and execute work plans associated with customer application base projects and division goals. The ideal candidate will also support internal and external training exercises revolving around new products pertinent to Cell & Gene Therapy and Bioprocess initiatives.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Perform routine mammalian cell culture.
- Responsible for designing, executing experiments, and analyzing experimental results.
- Maintain and document all experimental protocols.
- Conduct experiments to trouble-shoot for deviation investigation.
- Serves as an internal subject matter expert (SME) for bioprocess development.
- Analyze and report data and provide critical review of results.
- Serve as technical consultant to projects both internally and externally.
- Work with marketing to generate protocols, technical documents, and presentations.
- Support new product launch.
Education/ Experiences
- M.S degree in Biological Sciences or related field and 6 years of large-scale cell expansion and harvest experience OR B.S degree in Biological Sciences or related field and 8 years of large scale cell expansion and harvest experience
Required Skills / Abilities
- Ability to design experiments, flow diagrams, and process risk assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to write technical protocols and reports.
- Understanding of bioprocess, control, fluid dynamics, agitation, and mass transfer.
- Knowledge of process development and technical acumen for GMP manufacturing.
- Experience with cell line development or cell growth optimization.
- Familiarity with produce cell lines (CHO, HEK293, VERO, MDCK, etc.).
- Experience with single-use technologies (SUT) for cell production.
- Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, innovation and problem solving.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desired Skills
- Ph.D with 5 years experience
- Experience working with CMOs and managing projects.
- Experience with vaccine and/or viral vectors (AAV, AV, LV) productions.
- Familiarity with stem cell and/or immune cell workflows.
- Handling of stacked vessel technologies, including CellSTACK and HYPERStack.
- Familiarity with 3D microcarrier process development workflows.
- Ability to meet deadlines independently with minimal direction or with large functional groups depending on the nature of the project.
- Flexibility in schedule to complete projects, tasks, and goals.
- Ability to work in a dynamic atmosphere with shifting priorities.
- Knowledgeable of technology transfer protocols.
