Job description

The Life Enrichment Specialist works cooperatively and respectfully with elders, team members, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in the home. This may involve direct problem solving, conflict resolution and ensuring that the activity needs and desires of the elders are met.

Detailed Description:

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is current seeking a Life Enrichment Specialist who provides support to the neighborhood in activities, assuring each neighborhood's abilities to promote the psychosocial well-being of all elders and to plan and carry out interests and social activities for elders and the neighborhood, including activities creating a diversity of opportunities for meaningful pursuits, daily pleasures, recreation, exercise, friendships, social interaction, growth and learning, fun, enjoyment, personal routines and neighborhood rituals.

Schedule:

* 11:00 am - 7:30 pm every other Saturday/Sunday

2 week days during pay period 12:00 - 7:30 pm ( 2 hours each)

Core Responsibilities:

* Completes initial activities assessment on each resident within 14 days of admission.
* Ensures adequate documentation that complies with federal, state and facility standards for neighborhoods and elders. This includes but is not limited to chart audits and documentation of elder's attendance at all functions.
* Creates community through maintaining "home" in the physical environment, maintains a sense of welcome through elimination of institutional barriers, enhancing relationships in the Villages through shared activities of living.
* Works with the Neighborhood Guides, Elder Specialists and elders to plan programs/activities based on the elder's needs, interests, and abilities.
* Transport elders to and from activities.
* Prepares and distributes monthly calendars and post menu in dining rooms

Qualifications/Requirements:

* High school diploma or GED,
* Minimum two years' experience preferred with elders in a long-term care setting (group home, skilled nursing facility, or day care).
* Must be capable of considerable walking, standing, lifting and pushing wheelchairs. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Work area includes rooms, halls, and other areas of the facility.
* May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
* Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile individuals within the facility.
