About the opportunity:
SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for a Summer Intern to join our Amherst, MA office. SWCA offers an exciting work environment with field projects in New England States.

Your role would be to assist primarily with fieldwork, with limited opportunities for laboratory and office work. Work under this internship will be conducted for a variety of renewable energy, energy transmission, and land development projects. Laboratory and office work would consist of processing artifacts, short writing assignments, and small mapping tasks. You should be familiar with word processing and be able to work outside.

What you will accomplish:

Conduct archaeological fieldwork including monitoring, survey and testing.

Hands-on experience with site recording and artifact processing methods.

Assisting with background research and portions of the report writing.

Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units and Tablets.

Experience and qualifications for success:
Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in anthropology or archaeology. Or a recent graduate within 12 months of May 2022.

Applicants that are pursing a Master's degree will also be considered. Ph.D. candidates are not eligible through this program.

Must have completed 60 credit hours and a minimum of a junior classification by June 6, 2022.

In the process of taking, or have completed coursework in Anthropological Research Methods, Archaeological Survey Methods, Cultural Anthropology, Introduction to Archaeology and North American Archaeology.

Proficient in MS Office.

Preferred:

Field School or Previous Field Experience.

Additional Information:

Current valid driver's license

Ability to travel within the region.

Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds (in a backpack), dig STP's, as well as walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork.

Able to safely conduct fieldwork in inclement weather and rugged terrain.

This internship will be for the summer 2022, beginning June 6, 2022.
