Overview

Perform health physics support in the area of radiological assessment and implementation of radiation safety requirements. This benefits eligible position is a project based position that will last approximately 18 months. There is a start date and firm end date.

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.

Responsibilities

Provide balance of plant support for HP field operations and project support throughout the facility based on daily needs. These include the following:

* Assist in maintaining the site RPP, technical basis document, and compliance with 10CFR835.
* Perform radiation and contamination surveys of radiological controlled areas and radioactivematerials at PPPL, using appropriate instrumentation and generating required documentationincluding surveys.
* Support ongoing activities as needed, including performance of routine surveys and generationof Radiation Work Permits.
* Provide Health Physics coverage for work performed in radiological controlled areas, includingmaintenance, facility operations, equipment removals, and equipment installations.
* Perform other various health physics related tasks as assigned by Health Physics Management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* At least 5 years Health Physics technician experience at a commercial nuclear power plant, radiological facility and/or DOE facility.

Physical Requirements:

* Must be capable of accessing any and all experimental, operating and construction areas in order to physically view work practices and conduct surveys.
* Lift and carry objects 50 lbs.
* Must be able to work with laboratory chemicals and wear protective clothing during the course of the work day.
* Must be able to work in hoods in environments that require constant eye protection.
* Must be able to work outside in all seasons collecting samples from wells, boundary monitoring stations and wooded areas around PPPL.
* Must have valid NJ drivers license to operate the HP vehicle.
* Must be able to work around radioactive materials.
* Must be willing to submit to routine bioassay's (urine analysis) for the detection of tritium.
* Must be capable of routine bending, climbing stairs and. walking around the site.
* Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English to maintain records of control
* Must be capable of climbing ladders and accessing elevated areas and facilities.

Working Conditions:

* Shift will typically be a regular 8 hour day shift.
