Assistant Section Leader performs and evaluates complex laboratory tests in various areas of the clinical laboratory. Acts as a technical resource for Medical, Nursing and Laboratory staff. Must have the necessary background to recognize problems, be proficient in troubleshooting, problem solving, and have a thorough understanding of Quality Control procedures. The Assistant Section Leader may be key operators for various instruments, directly involved in writing SOP's, training, advanced maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, QC evaluation and documentation. Assists in developing and modifying procedures and programs to ensure the accuracy of a test. Assistant Section Lead help to develop and achieve section goals and objectives - short and long term. They are involved in implementing and following guidelines for compliance with accrediting agencies such as CAP and TJC. They are involved with Quality Assurance and Improvement procedures in their area. They are directly involved with the daily operations of their area, delegating work and making schedule changes as needed. They review data daily and weekly, reporting problems to a supervisor immediately. They attend and/or participate in appropriate hospital and departmental meetings, committees and programs. They provide appropriate orientation to residents, new employees, and current employees on new procedures on a timely basis. All required or assigned duties are performed. They assume all the responsibilities of a supervisor in their absence.

Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Science required.
- 5 years in a hospital Laboratory
- Must be CLIA eligible for High Complexity Testing
- MT(ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
