Job description
This position is available starting Jan 2021 in Chauhan's laboratory at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Mass. Eye and Ear. The research fellow position involves conducting a mentored research project to study stem cell biology, specifically related to the immunology of stem cells and its application to regenerative medicine. The research fellow will design and perform independent and collaborative research involving immunological, cellular, and molecular biology assays and in vivo animal studies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Read, analyze and summarize published literature
- Design and execute in vitro and in vivo
- Undertake relevant coursework if required by mentor.
- Attend relevant meetings
- Meet regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones
- Plan and deliver a seminar on the project
- Take administrative (inventory, purchasing, etc.) responsibilities in the lab when necessary
- Write a final report or submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal describing the project and results
Qualifications
Requires a doctoral degree (MD/PhD). At least two years of pre or postdoctoral experience in the field of induced pluripotent stem cell research. Knowledge of flow cytometry, CRISPR/Cas gene editing, and expression, PCR, ELISA, IHC, cell and tissue cultures, animal handling and tissue harvesting, experiment planning, and data analysis skills. Excellent verbal and writing skills for manuscript writing and presentations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Lab setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
