Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Proposes and undertakes a mentored, innovative project or challenge to develop novel molecular therapies for retinal diseases mediated by pathologic angiogenesis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Dr. Kim's laboratory focuses on pathological processes that are clinically relevant. His work is relevant for such conditions as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and drug toxicities. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to designs and perform in vitro and animal experiments, analyze and present data under the mentorship of Dr. Kim.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read, analyze and summarize published literature
  • Design and execute in vitro and in vivo
  • Undertake relevant coursework if required by mentor.
  • Attend relevant meetings
  • Meet regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones
  • Plan and deliver a seminar on the project
  • Take administrative (inventory, purchasing, etc.) responsibilities in the lab when necessary
  • Write a final report or submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal describing the project and results

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Applicants should have a PhD or MD/PhD in molecular/cellular biology, genetics, neuroscience, or a related discipline, and should have a demonstrated record of experience working with in vitro and in vivo models and excellent scientific writing skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lab setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
