Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe's growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. Today, our foundry is developing over 40 different organisms to make different products across multiple industries.The focus of the Selections & Strain Improvement (SSI) team is the application of directed evolution to achieve strain engineering objectives. In support of this mission you will: (1) design and construct genetic libraries of genes, pathways, and whole genomes, (2) develop and deploy genetic selections to improve production of target biomolecules, (3) develop and deploy multiplex cell-based assays, and (4) develop novel methods of ultra-high-throughput screening for phenotypes of interest. We are always seeking to get the job done faster, better, and cheaper. We are looking for help in doing that.ResponsibilitiesMeet with stakeholders to understand needs and decide on deliverables, and then follow up and share results with themPlan and execute multi-month directed evolution and/or strain engineering campaignsCollaborate within the SSI team and with other Ginkgo teamsDevelop protocols and write SOPsDesired Experience and CapabilitiesPhD or equivalentDeep experience in molecular biology, genetics, and/or synthetic biologyDemonstrated success in deploying one or more of the following: NGS analysis, FACS, directed evolution, cell-free systems, and genome editingWillingness to learn and use a variety of automation and software tools, including code and Ginkgo software under active developmentTo learn more about Ginkgo, check out some recent press:What is it really like to take your company public via a SPAC?
