We are seeking a Vice President of Business Development to join and help lead our dynamic, passionate, and collaborative Commercial Cell Engineering team, dedicated to cultivate and execute new business partnerships.As a Vice President for Commercial Cell Engineering, you will be identifying new areas where Ginkgo's platform can effectively serve as a disruptive technology, and developing strategic commercial plans for these sectors that optimize for impact and probability of success. You will consistently introduce our technology to prospective clients in different portions of the value chain, manage a high-performance team tasked to grow Ginkgo's Cell Engineering business, and integrate Cell Engineering business development objectives with broad business and corporate objectives. Given your industry experience, you know the key players, understand the biotechnology field, keep current with emerging trends, and you can leverage your strong network to create an effective market strategy and sales pipeline. You also enjoy building relationships and teams, and take a proactive approach to maximizing new and existing business opportunities. Most importantly, you see the bigger picture: you are excited about Ginkgo and eager to help us achieve our mission of making biology easier to engineer.Note: This position is based out of our Boston office, but there is flexibility to be partially remote. In particular, we are seeking candidates for Vice President of Business Development who are enthusiastic about pitching, negotiating, and closing new deals and business opportunities. Please include a deal sheet with your application if available.ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership in developing and executing a business development strategyWork cross-functionally with research, development, finance, and legal to enable and drive a successful business development strategyActively seek new markets and partnership opportunities in coordination with Ginkgo's Business Development teamMap scenarios for Ginkgo to impact new markets and recommend paths forward to Cell Engineering managementSource, evaluate, develop, structure, negotiate and close business and financial terms for diverse transactionsRoutinely prepare and communicate business development updates and opportunities to Ginkgo's Cell Engineering and Corporate leadership teamsManage a team of highly motivated individuals with unique perspectives and complementary strengthsSpeak at industry conferences about Ginkgo's technologyGuide and coordinate Business Development-related activities with other groups and functions across the organizationTravel as necessaryDesired Capabilities and Experience10 years of relevant business development experience in the biotech industryMBA or working equivalent through business/financial experience, strongly preferredEducation (undergraduate or graduate degree) in the sciences, preferredProven Business Development track record is required, with drive to pitch, negotiate, and close new deals and business opportunitiesDemonstrated ability to thoughtfully expand existing partnerships and relationshipsPassion for collaboration and significant experience in relationship-building, with ability to leverage and convert market knowledge and relationships into business opportunitiesMotivation and ability to innovate while working towards Ginkgo's goalsExperience managing teams to move opportunities through a sales pipelineExcellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to organize among competing prioritiesEagerness to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, and enthusiasm to be a part of Ginkgo's missionTo learn more about Ginkgo, check out some recent press: What is it really like to take your company public via a SPAC?
