Job description

Job Summary

The RAII will be part of a team of 2-4 research staff of the Foundry team within Melton Lab, responsible for the specialized production of human islet cells from stem cells.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

The RAII will be responsible with daily cultures of human pluripotent stem cells including maintenance, expansion and differentiation to various lineages. Under the direction of senior research staff in the Melton Lab, the RA will perform quantitative and qualitative assessments of beta cell directed differentiation using assays that include immunohistochemistry, FACS, gene expression, and physiological tests for beta cell function such as glucose tolerance testing (GTT), glucose stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS), ELISAs. Research assistants are expected to troubleshoot and co-develop standard protocols and quality control measures, and independently collect and record experimental data and update written protocols and methods based on findings. Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and strong communication skills are required.

Basic Qualifications

College level coursework in biology or closely related field is required as is two years tissue of work experience with cell and tissue culture andsterile laboratory techniques in a biological research laboratory.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's degree in biology or closely related field.Experience with culturing human pluripotent stem cells including maintenance, expansion and differentiation to various lineages is preferred.

This position requires a strong commitment and the willingness to work irregular hours, some holiday and weekend coverage will be required. This is a grant-funded position with a 2 year commitment preferred and the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funding.
