This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business.Job PurposeTo assist the Lead and Senior Operator in all gas dispatching and control room management functions.Key AccountabilitiesAssist the Lead Gas System Operator in all gas dispatching and control room management functions. These functions include:The operation of National Grid's natural gas transmission and distribution systems in a manner which maximizes safety, reliability, and efficiency of service to approximately 1.1 million customer meters, co-generators and power generation facilities.Confirm and dispatch natural gas supplies from domestic and Canadian pipeline suppliers and peak shaving facilities for consumption by gas and electric customers. Manage the daily gas supply contracts and transactions on behalf of the company as well as third party shippers that have access to National Grid's gas system resources.Balance on system and off system operational constraints with intra-day swing requirements, and weather forecast uncertainty to achieve service reliability. Direct the operational dispatch of LNG plant gas peaking facilities to meet off system sales obligations and gas system send out requirements. Directs field operation's when natural gas transmission and distribution supply mains are shut down for construction, maintenance or in response to emergency conditions.Accountable for the continual monitoring of all gas supplies utilizing the National Grid's Common Gas SCADA system, and the National Grid and Pipeline Electronic Bulletin Boards, and for identifying and responding to all alarms generated by those systems. Candidate is responsible for preparing hourly, daily and monthly gas logging reports and statistics. This position helps coordinate scheduled or emergency maintenance of all major gas system components.Will be assigned to 12 hr. rotating shift work that includes weekends and holidays.Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience RequiredStrong communication, interpersonal, administrative and leadership skills.QualificationsPosition requires a solid technical foundation satisfied by either a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or advanced vocational skills attained through three or more years of on the job experience in a gas operating/production environment.Candidates must be adept at reading maps, blueprints and piping schematics and have the ability to identify and respond to all audio and visual alarms generated by the SCADA system. A practical working knowledge of all gas system components including natural gas metering stations, major gas mains, and gas regulation and production facilities is a plus. Experience with any of the former or present Gas SCADA Systems is preferred.Strong communication, interpersonal, administrative and leadership skills are essential. Candidates must have existing computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Internet, Intranet, and Gas Transportation Electronic Bulletin Board). Must be able to perform multiple tasks and be able to recognize and react to system upsets and emergencies in a timely manner. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to move up to the Lead Gas System Operator position.More InformationPPL is in the process of acquiring The Narragansett Electric Company from National Grid.
