POSITION
Greenlight Biosciences is developing cutting edge RNA technologies that address global challenges in human health, food security, and pollinator safety. GreenLight is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Scientist 3 to lead our Human Health Delivery Innovation Analytical team. In this role you will lead a team of Scientists and Research Associates supporting the Delivery Innovation team at our Woburn, MA location. Your team will be integrally involved in the development and characterization of novel formulations to enable enhanced mRNA drug product delivery and mRNA stability. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience developing and executing analytical methods to characterize biomolecules, preferably nucleic acids. The ability to lead a cross-functional team to deliver against aggressive deadlines is essential. Experience working with lipids and lipid nanoparticles, as well as experience with biophysical characterization techniques is strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface and collaborate with other Discovery functions and with the CMC Analytical Development teams are essential. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability and drive to maintain commitment to scientific excellence and high-quality work in a fast-paced, milestone-driven company are essential. This position reports to the Director of Analytical Sciences.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a team responsible for the development and execution of analytical methods as required to provide information pertaining to formulation quality, potency, and stability; 50% effort dedicated to bench science and 50% effort to science strategy and project management
- Troubleshoot analytical methods as necessary, especially when adapting established methods to novel formulations
- Oversee analytical testing of mRNA formulations using established methods, ensuring quality data and quick turnaround time
- Collaborate with other R&D and CMC team members to transfer analytical methods
- Stay up to date with scientific and technical development within the field of analytical chemistry and nucleic acid therapeutics
- Be accountable for accuracy of data analysis and timely processing of samples
- Detail-oriented tracking and documenting of experimental results and instrument performance in electronic laboratory notebooks and company databases
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline
- 4+ years industry experience working in an Analytical Development or R&D role, preferably at an industrial biotechnology or biopharmaceutical company
- Strong background in formulation chemistry with knowledge of current nucleic acid formulations
- Experience in (bio)physical chemistry techniques such as NMR, SAXS, DSC, DLS, cryoTEM/EM, etc. required
- Experience with HPLC and chromatographic method development required
- Experience with evaporating light scattering detectors (ELSD), charged aerosol detectors (CAD), and mass spectrometry a plus
- Experience with molecular biology, especially molecular biology of nucleic acids preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistical based experimental design and analysis of experimental data. Experience with tools such as JMP, R etc. is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability in performing then converting scientific work and analyses into concrete, actionable insights
- A demonstrated track record of delivering on goals, achieving a high standard of work, strong communication skills and a commitment to team success.
- Demonstrated leadership of research teams.
