Associate Scientist II/Scientist I, MSAT

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist II or Scientist I to join Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) in the Operations S&T Biologics organization at AbbVie Bioresearch Center based in Worcester, MA. MSAT leads the process technology transfer, optimization, validation, implementation, and continuous improvement for late-stage and commercial manufacturing of therapeutic proteins within AbbVie. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and highly professional team of scientists and engineers to support MSAT's mission at AbbVie.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead routine upstream manufacturing support activities
  • Perform manufacturing data acquisition and analysis in a timely manner.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting of process-related problems in the upstream manufacturing process
  • Support process validation activities and contributes to writing validation protocols/reports.
  • Lead laboratory-scale studies in collaboration with the process development group and document work appropriately in technical reports
  • Assist in continuous process improvement/verification.
  • Serve as an upstream process SME in a cross-functional team consisting of operations, engineering, quality, regulatory, project management, and planning.


Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • BS or MS degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with 3+ years (BS) or 0+ years (MS) of relevant upstream manufacturing support/operations/process development experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Expertise in upstream manufacturing processes for biologics.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience with media preparation, operation of shake flasks and bioreactors and relevant cell culture analytical techniques.
  • Experience with statistical/data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Discoverant, SIMCA) is a plus
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-motivated desire to achieve.
  • Excellent communication and scientific skills, the desire and drive to grow and develop scientifically.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • Must have a "results-oriented" work ethic and a positive, "can-do" attitude.
