Job description

We are looking for an experienced Elastomers Technical Service Engineer for the Huntsman Specialty Elastomers (HSE) business based in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Your primary responsibilities will be to 1) become proficient with Huntsman specialty elastomers technology laboratory equipment and machines, 2) be able to support customers at the Huntsman lab and at the customers sites to test the HSE systems (or demonstrate on PU machine with their moulds) and determine a plan with the Technical and Commerical leadership to secure a successful outcome.

You will be trusted with the challenge to ensure that short term development projects and / or customer concerns are resolved in a professional manner.

In summary, the role includes working with laboratory equipments and PU machine, optimize process to fullfill customer requirements, measuring sample part/material performance and working with the broader technical community locally and globally to achieve successful results.

As the Specialty Elastomer Technical Service Representative, you will:

Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with the Safety, Health and Environment procedures and report performance on a regular basis
Build up PU systems and equipment knowledge and capabilities; this include maintenance and modifications
Provide project communications to HSE Global technical team, Business Manager and local technical teams
Combine a fundamental understanding of the PU chemistry and a high level of creativity to develop solutions for the customer needs that were identified by line management
Report the results to the Technical and Commercial Managers while keeping a well organized and detailed laboratory logbook and written call reports
Abide with Auburn Hills Site Safety and Housekeeping rules
Keep abreast of all PU developments within the Specialty Elastomers application area and to communicate the novel technical ideas that you generated within the HSE Global Technical Team
Provide technical service to our customers

Skills and experiences required:

A Bachelor in Chemistry/ chemical engineering with 4+ years experience in the specialty polyurethane elastomer industry, preferably with dispensing machine engineering experience
The ideal candidate must have an understanding of polyurethane technical (lab, research, processing, etc.) principles and practices
Required competencies include technical aptitude, processing equipment and chemisty knowledge, laboratory skills, understanding technology offerings, troubleshooting skills, leadership and teamwork and excellent customer relations
A positive, hands-on attitude and good interpersonal skills
Basic IT skills
Willingness to travel 30-50% of the time
Excellent communication & cross-cultural awareness skills
