LIFEGUARD
SUMMIT ON THE PARK
Variable Hour
Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour
An additional $2.50 per hour temporary wage incentive will be offered for all hours worked July 25, 2021 through December 31, 2021.

Hourly rate and wage incentive will be paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Early morning and daytime shifts are available.
Afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are also available.
Annual average up to 29 hours per week based on availability.

JOB DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of all individuals within the Aquatic Center. Work is performed under the general direction of the Recreation Specialist.
EXAMPLES OF WORK : (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)
  • Promote a positive and safe experience for all visiting patrons
  • Observe the behavior of all patrons either by patrolling the deck or by surveying from the lifeguard chair, as directed
  • Communicate facility's policies, rules, and procedures in a friendly and pleasant manner
  • Provide updates to people within the pool area as needed
  • Keep an accurate record of individuals using the facility
  • Perform assists, rescues, C.P.R., and first aid when necessary
  • Record pool and air temperatures as well as chemical readings as required by Health Department guidelines
  • Alert supervisory staff to any dangerous, unsanitary or potentially hazardous conditions
  • Assist swim instructors with record keeping, equipment usage, and swim lessons
  • Regulate the dispatch of people using the water slide and monitor the flow of swimmers and equipment in the other pool areas
  • Attend and participate in meetings, retraining and staff in-services as required
  • Perform minor maintenance, cleaning and daily upkeep of the Aquatic Center
  • Respond to patron concerns or complaints and forward information to appropriate supervisor
  • Provide a dependable and acceptable substitute in their absence
  • Performs other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
  • Must possess a current certification in Lifeguard Training, C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid from a nationally-recognized organization (Jeff Ellis and Associates certification is preferred) or must be enrolled and attending a certified Lifeguard Training Program. If certified through another agency, certification through Jeff Ellis & Associates is mandatory within 30 days of hire.
  • Must pass pre-employment water, C.P.R., and first aid exams
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to withstand exposure to chemicals commonly used in swimming pool environments
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Must be willing to conform to department uniform policy
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and distress situations quickly and effectively
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays and substitute when needed
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability
