Executive Director, Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative

Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is responsible for private fundraising, community engagement, and ongoing support along the Border to Border (B2B) Trail. The Executive Director assumes the primary role of leading and managing the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative. The position's principle focus is on managing the organization, major donor fundraising, and partnership/relationship development. The Executive Director supports the Board on fundraising and other key initiatives. The Executive Director participates in setting the strategic direction of the organization and leads the planning and implementation of operational activities. The Executive Director maintains focus on the organization's mission/vision in all aspects of the role's responsibilities. This position is full-time, reporting to the Board Chair, and supervises the Assistant Director and may supervise other staff members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Board/Board Officers

  • In coordination with the Board of Directors, develop organizational and fundraising strategies
  • Work with and support the Board of Directors in execution of the mission and vision of the organization
  • Provide leadership and/or support for special committees and initiatives as requested
  • Support the Board Chair and Officers as needed

Fundraising and Outreach

  • In coordination with the Board of Directors, develop the fundraising plan, fundraising strategies, development materials and development communication tools
  • Participate in identifying, cultivating and securing corporate, individual and foundation sponsors
  • Maintain on-going relationships with donors
  • Prepare grant proposals and reports
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization
  • Develop organizational messaging and communications strategies
  • Participate in the development of the community outreach strategy and plans
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with HWPI's primary partner, the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Cultivates relationships with business partners, municipal, nonprofit and state organizations
  • Support the staff and their outreach to community organizations

_ Operations _

  • Oversee the basic operational, financial, administrative and programmatic activities of the organization
  • Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization
  • Oversees the accounting function and outsourced benefits administration
  • Assists in audit preparation
  • Supervise HWPI staff

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in nonprofit or business administration or related field is required, Master's Degree is strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years management experience at the leadership level, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in, nonprofit operations and management
  • Entrepreneurial approach to problem solving
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a dynamic and evolving organization
  • Ability and willingness to take on projects new projects and work beyond one's comfort zone
  • Development and fundraising experience, including donor cultivation and solicitation, and donor management
  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate financial statements
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work with people in a variety of roles from members of the Board of Directors to volunteers
  • Established track record in analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills including CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Position occasionally requires travel within state
  • Occasional evening and weekend events and/or meetings as needed
  • Offices are located within the Chelsea Wellness center while the organization continues to follow a blend of in-person and remote work practices

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
