Laboratory Technician

Cleveland Cliffs Steel - Dearborn Works is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill our Laboratory Technician role at our Dearborn facility. As a laboratory technician, you will be responsible for preparing samples for analysis and evaluating the results of the various tests. Attention to detail is vital to this role to ensure that standard of high quality products is met.

Primary Responsibilities:

Candidates may be placed in either the Mechanical or Chemical Laboratory. The job duties below will vary based on placement.

Chemical Laboratory:

* Prepare samples for chemical analysis
* Operate carbon-sulfur infrared absorption determinators
* Operate thermal conductivity nitrogen determinators
* Conduct optical emission and x-ray spectrometers
* Run samples and standards for SPC plotting
* Perform other laboratory duties as needed

Mechanical Laboratory:

* Collect samples from in-plant and out-plant locations
* Accurately record samples into the computer database
* Use a shear or press to process samples
* Perform hardness or surface texture testing
* Perform other laboratory duties as needed

Qualifications:

* Associate's of Applied Science in a technical field, such as chemistry, biology, or engineering required.
* Experience is preferred
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Must have a valid driver's license
* Must be willing to work any shift including weekends, and must be available for holidays and overtime

Pay:

* $17.62/ hour base rate plus future incentive pay potential
