Job description

Overview:
Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is recruiting for PRN Registration/Schedulers. Responsible for answering and directing incoming calls; scheduling and/or rescheduling clinic appointments; registering patients into the computer system.

Responsibilities:
Schedules and reschedules clinic appointments.

Answers and directs department phon calls.

Enters patient demographic, referral, and insurance information into the EMR.

Generates daily reports.

Verifies eligibility of managed care patients and collects copays.

Checks and updates referral information.

Sorts and distributes department mail.

Provides information to patients regarding billing processes and procedures.

Manages patient requests for refills, referrals, lab/diagnostic results, etc.

Manages patient portal requests.

Monitors office supplies and reorders items as needed.

Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.

Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency plus minimum one year experience of data entry and receptionist experience or equivalent amount of formal training.

Ability to be available to work a minimum of 16 hours per month to maintain PRN status required.

Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.

Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.

Knowledge and proficiency of EMR, Medifax, Access, WebDenis system, CHAMPS, and internet as required by department.

Knowledge of basic word processing and file management using Microsoft Word and functions on the EMR.

Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

Ability to operate automated standard office equipment such as multi-line phone system, copier, fax machine, shredder, etc.
