POSITION SUMMARIES

The Day Camp Coordinator will be responsible for planning and facilitating all aspects of the Day Camp Program in conjunction with the Summer Camp Director. Responsibilities includes but are not limited to: overseeing staff of, scheduling and facilitating program activities and skills based activities, and planning, leading, scheduling evening programs. Onsite housing for this position is optional. Schedule dependent on housing. Must be at least 18 years of age.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Be a patient, enthusiastic role model for our campers and staff
• Supervise all camp staff by giving them direction, resources, and leadership
• Provide feedback and corrective action for staff where necessary
• Serve as a resource for staff
• Further develop staff recognition program
• Identify, minimize and eliminate, where possible, any risks that could cause accidents
• Ensure program activities/meals begin on time
• Assume the role and duties of counselor as determined by the Summer Camp Director

Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the Camp Manitou-Lin YMCA and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

COMPENSATION

• Onsite housing is optional, and would include meals Sunday - Friday. Staff who live on site are allowed to remain on site during the weekends throughout their seasonal employment if they choose. Scheduled time off will be granted each day.
• $60.00 - $65.00 per day; Seasonal; Non-Exempt
• Free individual YMCA membership

KNOW HOW

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Previous experiences in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
• Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of assisting and/or teaching an activity.
• Ability to teach and role model the Core Values of the YMCA and use of 21st century life skills
• Must be able to relate to one's peer group and work as a member of a team
• Ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
• Ability to perform a variety of tasks indoors and outdoors in different climate

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required
• First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
• Blood Borne Pathogen training
• State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
