Job description
Perform animal laboratory husbandry functions, prepare/organize/carry out study functions, maintain the laboratory facility/equipment and to facilitate senior staff in completing studies in a timely, efficient, and correct manner. Assist in training/mentoring junior staff and reviewing study books.
Job Description Role and Responsibilities
In addition to Research Technician 1 responsibilities, the Research Technician 2 role will include:
· Anesthesia monitoring and induction
· Assist Surgeons/Study Directors in Surgery
· IV Catheterizations & Injections
· Sample collection and processing
· Conduct specialized exams (e.g. ECGs, FOBs, etc)
· Study book review
· May serve as point tech on studies
· Proficient in small animal necropsy
· Assist in training entry level staff
· Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends; sometimes on short notice
· All other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· HS/GED/BS or equivalent in animal or life science related discipline
· Experience: HS/GED with 3 years; BS/MS with 2 years
· Certification: LAT and/or SRA/SRT preferred
Preferred Skills
· Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications. Ability to learn and use additional applications.
· Good written and oral communication skills, both inside and outside the organization.
Physical Requirements
· Individuals will be working in both an office and vivarium setting.
· Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Occasionally ascend/descend ladders and stairs. Spend the majority of the day standing and/or walking.
· Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including respirators.
Work Environment
· The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
Additional Notes
· Ability to handle common laboratory species
· Basic understanding of study design and protocols
· Knowledge of GLPs and other federal regulations relating to care of laboratory animals
· Basic understanding of laboratory operations and data collection
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
