Assistant Plan Manager (Troy, MI)
Assistant Plan Manager Responsibilities:
- Exercise discretion in all matters relating to administration, including but not limited to: Fund financials and investment information, Trustee concerns and participant appeals.
- Review and analyze monthly financial statements, monitor income and expense fluctuations.
- Manage inter-department relationships to ensure that client-specific procedures, in and between Claims, Eligibility and Accounting are routinely practiced and enforced.
- Attend Board of Trustees meetings, ability to write minutes, direct departments with regards to implementing directions by the Trustees and compliance with ERISA, legislative and Department of Labor requirements.
- Review and have knowledge of all client vendors - including billing practices, services being performed for each Fund, frequency of presentations to the Board of Trustees
- Ability to draft and coordinate all employer and participant mailings, to notify of rate changes, benefits changes, Summary Material Modifications, Summary Annual Report, etc.
- Obtain and utilize claim, eligibility, income and expenses to prepare annual (or as requested) benefit studies, recommendations on rate increases, self pay rates, etc.
- Familiar with employee benefits terminology.
- Interpretation and applications of provisions of Plan/Trust Documents with Amendments, Summary Plan Descriptions and/or the ability to research within these documents to respond to inquiries.
- Respond to coordinators/department questions with regards to Plan benefits, contributions, eligibility, Plan provisions, or ability to research inquiries before forwarding to legal counsel for interpretation.
- Handle problematic calls or situations, including complaints against Supervisors or Managers and requests from Trustees.
- Supervise office staff and perform such administrative functions as shall be deemed appropriate by the Trustees of the Funds; instructions for daily/monthly tasks, special projects as needed, supervise staff special projects.
- Perform duties of staff (contributions, eligibility) when needed.
- Represent Trust Funds in general audits by the Internal Revenue Services and Department of Labor.
- Analyze, document and assist with system problems and modification. Provide specific direction to Programming regarding benefit changes.
- Oversee the daily operations of the Funds.
- Report regularly to the Board of Trustees of the Funds. Present to the Trustees all matters regarding the Funds: applications for appeals, eligibility issues, etc.
Assistant Plan Manager Requirements:
- Post high school education
- Ability to read and interpret: plan documents, SPDs government regulations etc.
- Communicate both oral and written professionally and clearly.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Must be able to understand and apply knowledge of decimals, fractions, and percentages.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office - specifically Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Benefit Administration experience preferred

Assistant Plan Manager Work Schedule
Full time, Monday - Friday. Flexible schedules available with the potential to work from home occasionally after 90 days!
