Summary
The Business Development Officer (BDO), TAN is a senior sales position responsible for growing the footprint of the Thrivent Advisor Network. Their primary responsibilities include the development and execution of the TAN recruiting strategy through prospecting, relationship management, sales process optimization, brand building, and closing new affiliates. Other responsibilities include tracking and responding to industry developments and competitive intelligence, involvement in reporting, performance setting and management, training, ongoing platform design and administration.
This role is responsible for a portion of the productivity within the Thrivent Advisor Network. Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, the BDO fosters close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the sales organization's efficient operation and success. This is a senior level individual contributor role with a large amount of travel and face-to-face relationships and negotiations and supported by phone, LinkedIn, and email communication. Requires the ability to quickly meet the needs of a client by traveling to them for initial meetings and again to escalate through the stages of the pipeline.

Job Description
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop market resources to generate a high-volume pipeline of qualified clients/businesses, warm market, networking, referral firms, cold market, etc.
- Prospect for potential new financial advisor clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging their network while championing the TAN value proposition and representing TAN as a premier independent, national Advisory platform.
- Engage prospects to properly identify critical business drivers and opportunities to develop appropriate solutions. Serve as their single point of contact and convert prospects into clients.
- Overcome objections and provide additional information to prospects, which requires in-depth knowledge of wealth management industry and markets.
- Incorporate and respond to economic analysis of clients.
- Coordinate the due diligence process and prepare for onboarding, including portability assessment and start-up needs.
- Present business development training and mentoring to internal team members and advisors.
- Occasionally called upon to speak at industry events on behalf of Thrivent Advisor Network
- Supports sales forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes. Maintains high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency in planning, forecasting, and budgeting approaches used by the sales organization.
- Accountable for bringing in new advisors and offices to TAN.
- Responsible for the efficient utilization of technology, support, and training resources impacting the sales organization.
- Achievement of Thrivent and TAN's mission, sales, profit, and strategic objectives.
- Accountable for accurate and on-time sales reporting.
- Achievement of strategic objectives defined by company management.
Required Job Qualifications
- Understanding of and relationships in the wealth management marketplace
- An outgoing personality with a vast network of advisors in the wealth management industry.
- A self-starter who can to self-source leads and prospects.
- A creative, solutions-based innovative leader who wants to be part of a growing organization.
- Four-year college degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience; MBA and/or advanced designations preferred.
- Minimum 6 years of financial advisor recruiting experience, specifically onto a 1099 independent business owner platform. Minimum 10 years in a sales operation, business planning, or sales support management role.
- Proven ability to develop and manage relationships in addition to sales and negotiating in a constructive and collaborative manner.
- Savvy with financial planning, managed accounts, brokerage, insurance, and annuities. Knowledge of financial services industry trends, developments, and regulatory considerations.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work within a fast-moving environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage both field and corporate office relationships.
- Analytical proficiency in market sizing and segmentation, forecasting and business planning.
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours.
- Ability to leverage storytelling to persuade and motivate.
- Active participation in industry associations and trade groups.
