THE POSITION
The Volunteer Development Manager is responsible for the overall management, administrative support and re-development of the Guthrie Theater's volunteer programming as well as the development of organization-wide internship, fellowship and apprenticeship programs. This position is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, training, evaluating, maintaining and recognizing participants to maximize resources, reflect organizational core values and build community. The Volunteer Development Manager will identify, develop and cultivate existing and new partnerships with civic, corporate, educational and individual partners to increase volunteerism and expand volunteer opportunities and impact. This position will also oversee the tracking and reporting of volunteer data. All employees are expected to center, model and champion the Guthrie's core values of Artistic Excellence, Community, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Fiscal Responsibility.
This position is full-time, exempt and benefits-eligible. Compensation for this position is $43,316 - $60,650 annually plus benefits. The typical schedule for this role will vary based on the dynamic schedule of a theater and will require evening and weekend availability.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Volunteer Program Management
* Recruit volunteers to meet the needs of theater operations and strategic goals.
* Provide a robust learning and impact-oriented experience to all Guthrie volunteers.
* Train staff on how to effectively and efficiently work with volunteers.
* Ensure staff and volunteers have mutually beneficial experiences; address concerns through coaching, training, placement modification and termination if needed.
* Ensure all volunteer records, activities, hours and other pertinent data are tracked in database.
* Create and maintain print/online volunteer program materials and reporting mechanisms, including recruitment materials, policies and procedures, training information, reports, orientation checklist, etc.
* Design and implement an annual statement on the Guthrie's Return on Volunteer Investment (ROVI); report on volunteer impact quarterly and annually.
* Draft and submit product/results-oriented RFPs to secure skills-based and student volunteers; supervise, lead, coach and/or support skills-based and/or student consulting teams.
* Evaluate and report on volunteer operations, including quarterly and year-end numbers on volunteers, hours and impact year to year, by activity/program and/or by department.
* Develop and effectively manage annual volunteer goals and budget.
* Complete other duties as assigned.
2. Volunteer Recruitment and Marketing
* Implement a comprehensive volunteer recruitment and engagement strategy to increase organizational volunteerism and commitment.
* Secure, screen and support volunteers to meet the needs of the organization.
* Implement volunteer placement strategies supporting the Guthrie's bottom line.
* Identify, develop and cultivate existing and new partnerships with civic, corporate, educational and individual partners to increase volunteerism and expand volunteer opportunities and impact.
* Encourage and promote long-term volunteer service and/or stewardship.
* Build authentic relationships to remove barriers to increase the diversity and inclusion of Guthrie volunteers.
* Coordinate with the Director of Community Engagement to develop, expand and steward community relationships with a view toward meaningful volunteer opportunities.
* Develop and share volunteer impact stories to increase community visibility, prominence and participation.
3. Volunteer Experience
* Ensure all volunteers have a successful and positive onboarding experience, know how to effectively and efficiently complete their job and have rewarding and impactful volunteer experiences.
* Implement annual volunteer satisfaction and effectiveness surveys to audit, evaluate and improve the volunteer program; report findings and implement improvements.
* Cultivate and foster effective methods of communication to increase volunteer impact for the organization and to increase volunteer satisfaction.
* Create a pipeline of volunteer referrals through consistent, positive and quality volunteer experiences.
* Develop and implement volunteer recognition programming. Acknowledge, recognize, celebrate and promote volunteer impact on the Guthrie and its mission.
* Foster a work environment incorporating the Guthrie values of Artistic Excellence, Community, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Fiscal Responsibility.
4. Internship, Fellowship and Apprenticeship Programs
* Create, develop and manage organization-wide internship, fellowship and apprenticeship programs to provide meaningful career opportunities that reflect the Guthrie's values of EDI and Community, contribute to the function of the theater and offer experience as well as practical training for participants.
* Train and support supervisors and departmental leaders to facilitate mentorship and learning experiences.
* Develop and manage programming that includes supervisory guidelines, interdepartmental exposure, social opportunity and relevance.
* In concert with Human Resources determine pay structures, recruiting and hiring guidelines.
* Facilitate cohorts that allow for productive collaboration and meaningful connections for participants.
* Execute routine evaluations for both participants and supervisors to ensure and refine program meaningfulness, efficiency and quality.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Prior experience as a volunteer manager, both developing and leading volunteer programming for a non-profit organization. Formal, informal and cross-disciplinary experiences will be considered.
* Knowledge of and experience building career opportunity programming such as internships, fellowships and apprenticeships.
* Professional-level skill and experience publicly speaking on behalf of an organization to increase volunteerism and expand volunteer opportunities and impact with civic, corporate and educational partners.
* Demonstrated skill recruiting, interviewing and selecting applicants for career-oriented programs and volunteer opportunities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook).
* Excellent organizational skills; experience with database management and record-keeping required.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain composure during stressful situations.
* Prior experience building community partnerships to ensure volunteerism and programming reflect the community at-large.
* Demonstrated ability to train staff on effective incorporation/utilization of interns in strategic plan outcomes.
* Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
* Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater.
