Job Description:

Work as part of the Americas Product Development team. Primary job functions include developing products from concept to commercialization, onboarding new ingredients, and supporting customers, external and internal. Partner in this position is responsible for identifying ingredients, creating formulas, pilot plant work, industrial plant scale up, specification creation, and completing shelf life studies. They are also responsible for following all departmental processes. This partner will need to work as part of cross functional teams to gather information, launch products, and support other projects. The scientist may also work on projects for optimization of costs, verifying claims, and quality improvement. This partner will also need to work within systems to ensure data is properly entered, stored, and referenced.

What you'll do:

  • Defines work plans and reports; work with a comprehensive understanding of department SOP; demonstrates an understanding of quality tools; and takes direction from leader to complete exploration or project work as needed.
  • Applies an understanding of Schreiber Foods' products and processes while working with partners in different parts of the organization to solve problems.
  • Basic understanding of regulatory standards and labeling issues; basic understanding of Schreiber Foods labeling practices.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of Schreiber Foods philosophies, processes, and systems to meet customer requirements; works to establish a network within Schreiber Foods to effectively get projects completed; maintains good understanding of the food industry and competitors that impact the business.
  • Works on a cross functional team for the development of new products and processes to deliver high impact results to Schreiber Foods and our customers; effectively handles pressures that may come from customers, suppliers, partners and management; takes a firm stand on their technical expertise when necessary.
  • Conveys complex technical concepts to non-technical partners; writes trial and shelf life reports.
  • Partner in this position must possess the following skills:
    • Some formulation knowledge with an ability to explain the general workings of at least one product category.
    • Ability to perform optimization projects based on their understanding and knowledge of industrial capabilities with the help of an R&D leader and/or other R&D partners.
    • Ability to conduct trials across multiple production facilities or categories.
    • Capable of performing work and making decisions on off shifts during plant trials.
    • Formula development, understanding of pricing, and raw material input adjustments.
    • Willingness to collaborate with others on the team.
    • High level of ability to work independently.
  • Together with other members of the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support department teams. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedure


What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in food/dairy science or a related field, Masters or PhD preferred
  • 2+ years' experience in research, product development, Operations, Quality or Formulations
  • Experience in one of SFI's core areas of expertise (yogurt, process cheese, natural cheese, or cream cheese) or emerging (beverages and plant based) is preferred. This partner will work remotely from their direct leader. They will need to work with a cross functional team and have good communication skills. This person will need to have the ability to work across multiple production facilities and product types located in Missouri. They may also take on projects outside of Missouri. This partner will need to have a primary work location in one of our Missouri factories.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%. Various Schreiber, Supplier, or Customer Locations in USA/LATAM. Majority of travel for this position will happen within the region and can be done by car

For positions that require any amount of travel: Valid driver's license, auto insurance (at least state minimum- more might be required), acceptable driving record per Schreiber Foods discretion, and vehicle that will ensure applicant can meet the travel necessities of the position are required.
