Section 1: Summary - Overview and Purpose of Position

The Driver/Housing Assistant is responsible for scheduled client pickups, transport of refugee clients to scheduled appointments. Driver/Housing Assistant also picks up donated furniture and household items and assists in moving furniture into client homes.

Section 2: Qualifications - Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma, GED, or 2-3 years of experience transporting individuals in a passenger vehicle.
  • Valid driver license with classification appropriate to operate JVS vehicles and valid auto insurance.
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations within the past three years.
  • Bi-lingual, strongly desired.

Section 3: Responsibilities/Duties

  • Transport clients as directed by Housing and Donations Coordinator to scheduled appointments relating to R&P Core Services.
  • Abide by JVS COVID guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers upon pickup and delivery to each scheduled appointment.
  • Maintain compliance with state regulations regarding the lawful operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Maintain cleanliness of JVS passenger vehicles, inside and out.
  • Monitor service schedules for passenger vehicles. Inform operations manager when service is needed.
  • Assist Case Managers, when assigned, with pickup of arriving clients at the airport.
  • Pick up donations.
  • Process all donations by sorting goods into designated storage areas.
  • Accept delivery of purchased items and moves to designated storage areas.
  • Prepare items for distribution to client homes; prepare and coordinate delivery of items for distribution at JVS locations in coordination with Housing and Donations Coordinator.
  • Transports merchandise between warehouse and JVS locations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor, Resettlement Services manager, or Community Integration Director.

Section 4: Skills Needed

  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations for the State of Missouri and at least 3 years experience safely operating a vehicle.
  • Must be able to operate JVS passenger vehicles in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The ability to develop positive working relationships with internal staff.

Section 6: Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Position requires travel outdoors in agency vehicle for donation pickups, potential homes, client homes, and partner agencies, thus, tolerance to extremes of heat and cold weather is may occur. Position requires frequent bending, squatting, sitting, standing, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items that may weigh up to 50 lbs.


Covid19: Mask required at all times. Proof of vaccinations required within 60 days of hire unless excused with religious or medical reasoning.
