Research Laboratory Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a direct hire opportunity in the Kansas City, Mo area for a Research Lab Assistant. The Research Lab Assistant (RLA) is primarily responsible for assisting in lab operation activities and research & development projects. Duties include, but are not limited to, clerical activities, specimen management, specimen pipetting, instrument calibration/operation/maintenance, data entry, specimen storage, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensuring all laboratory equipment and work areas are clean, disinfected, and in proper working order.
Duties:
· Performing sample, reagent, and material preparation steps for testing--which may include specimen pipetting with excellent accuracy and precision.
· Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments according to standard operating procedures.
· Maintain inventory of supplies, reagents, and materials.
· Document remedial action, troubleshooting, quality assurance activities, and instrument maintenance.
· Perform data queries of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
· Retrieve, label, and catalog samples for testing and properly store specimens.
· Perform cleaning and maintenance for laboratory spaces and instruments.
· Follow quality and safety standards, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
· Disposes of bio-hazardous materials, chemical waste, sharp, and other potentially hazardous materials according to regulations.
· Review documentation for completeness and accuracy.
· Work closely with other lab associates to complete daily activities as assigned.
· Become proficient in systems, including Harvest/Retriever, EtQ, Coupa, etc.
· Perform various administration responsibilities, including shipping, resolving mailing issues, journal subscription maintenance, office supply inventory and ordering backup, etc.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
· High School diploma or equivalent required.
· Previous laboratory experience preferred.
· Must be comfortable with biological specimen handling.
· Ability to read, interpret, and comply with documents such as internal SOPs, operating and maintenance instructions, and company policies.
· Good time management and organizational skills. Attentive to detail.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization.
· Good verbal & written communication skills.
· Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
· Represent department and the organization favorably and in accordance with established Company standards at all times.
· Identify ways to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity through process improvements.
