Zachry Group is seeking an Estimator III to support our Engineering Services Projects and Department in the Downer Grove Engineering Design Center and other design centers throughout the United States. Position may be based in one of the following offices:
Downers Grove (Chicago), IL; St Louis, MO; Houston (Pasadena / Westchase), TX; Omaha, NE
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform a variety of routine estimating assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for assigned phases of a project.
* Review client requests for minor estimating change orders and recommend action to supervisor.
* Review and understand applicability of bid documents. Able to interpret applicability of scope documents, specifications, drawings, lists, and vendor quotations.
* Review, understand, and verify accuracy of quantities provided by Engineering. Able to generate quantities when engineering support is unavailable.
* Review, understand, and verify accuracy of material, equipment, and subcontract pricing provided by Procurement. Able to generate vendor pricing when Procurement support is unavailable. Able to evaluate whether the scope of the vendor pricing aligns with the scope needed for their estimate.
* Apply accurate craft labor productivities to quantities for scope where subcontractors are not planned to perform the work. Able to develop the craft work hours required to do the work by breaking the work into steps and defining the number of craft workers it will take to complete the scope.
* Input craft estimate information into AspenTech estimating software.
* Prepare an estimate basis document highlighting the craft scope of work as well as the sources for the quantities, vendor pricing, and productivities. Create and include clarifications detailing their estimate basis when clarity was not provided through proposal documents.
* Create comparisons between scope for the project being estimated and past projects which have similar scope.
* Confidently present their estimate to management and clients while keeping a pleasant receptiveness toward questions and requested changes.
* Develop and maintain estimate templates.
* Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
* High School Diploma or GED
* Bachelor's Degree in an applicable Engineering Discipline or in Construction / Engineering Management or equivalent experience
* Minimum 5 - 10 years estimating experience
* Proficient with AspenTech estimating software (ACCE and AIPCE aka Kbase and Icarus)
* MS Excel Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Experience in estimating methods and procedures.
* Commitment to quality, responsibility, high work standards, and initiatives.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, as well as strong interpersonal skills and relationship building.
* Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks, with good attention to detail and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat and software systems. Position may include visits to construction sites and industrial facilities requiring mobility (on ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and work boots.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee may work in multiple environments including an office, a job site trailer, or building on a construction site. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
