Job description

O'Reilly Auto Parts is looking for an experienced in-house attorney to serve as a liaison between O'Reilly and government entities and agencies as well as trade and industry associations regarding legislative and policy changes which may impact the Company. The Legal Counsel - Government Affairs and Transactions provides legal services as assigned, including drafting and negotiating agreements, contract review, legal research, and providing legal advice and counsel to stakeholders within the Company regarding the same.

Essential Job Functions

  • Researches and monitors government activities that could affect the organization's business and clients.
  • Assists senior management and leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business and industry.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
  • Joins trade associations and industry committees and seeks leadership roles.
  • Collaborates with industry advocates to build areas of common interest.
  • Testifies before government committees in support of the organization and/or industry.
  • Introduces legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.
  • Drafts contracts and other legal agreements as required; reviews and revises contracts proposed by third parties.
  • Provides legal advice, guidance, and assistance to the Company regarding existing contract administration, requirements, amendments, re-negotiations, and terminations to manage commercial legal exposures.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Law Degree from ABA accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in governmental affairs, including testimony before government committees.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to pay consistent attention to detail.
