Job description

Our client is seeking a Controller to manage all accounting aspects within their mid-sized firm. This individual would ideally have 7+ years' experience in the agriculture industry, and be CPA certified.

Our client is an established, Midwest agriculture company. They are one of the largest growers in their field and have expanded into 11 different states. The focus of this role is to manage all accounting activities within the business, as well as provide management with needed financial analysis information. This position reports directly to the CFO. Here are the primary responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
• Manage the month-end close process
• Recommend and implement changes to ongoing accounting procedures and reports
• Evaluate financial implications of specific business decisions and advise management
• Gather, analyze, and prepare complex data for projects and to present to management
• Manage the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
• Provide insightful analysis to anticipate changes and best practices for the business
• Provide concise, effective, and timely financial reporting information
• Maintain well-organized and efficient departmental files
• Lead preparation of GAAP financial statements
• Review and/or prepare general ledger entries and account reconciliations
• Manage year-end audit requested data and provide interface as needed
• Research GAAP related issues and make recommendations as needed
• Manage the businesses' insurance program
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum of 7 years relevant experience (accounting operations and/or audit)
• Strong understanding of GAAP, P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow dynamics
• Agriculture industry experience, required
• Proficient with Microsoft Suite
• Must have a high level of initiative and independence in performing the responsibilities of the role and identifying shortfalls/solutions to benefit the company
• Ability to adapt quickly to new systems and a changing business environment
• Strong work ethic, outstanding leadership ability and exceptional interpersonal skills
