POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide high level of expertise in the facilities maintenance field. Work with maintenance technicians on all maintenance procedures, streamlining troubleshooting, PM's and repairs. Learn, teach, and maintain the Preventive Maintenance Program for the facility and all auxiliary equipment. This position requires advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Skills needed include construction skills such as carpentry, painting, light electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for performing all job requirements in a safe manner using the proper PPE and being a proactive safety role model with co-workers
  • Responsible for correcting/reporting unsafe behaviors or equipment to ensure a safe working environment
  • Ability to work in extreme hot or cold conditions.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Responsible for cleanliness within the work department
  • Follow all Food safety practices and processes applicable to the department
  • Perform/execute job duties keeping the company's commitment to quality in mind
  • Monitor and maintain all food safety activities as part of daily tasks
  • Enforce food safety plan while producing product
  • Act as a safety role model
  • Follow plant lock out/tag out procedures and all applicable personal mechanical and electrical safety guidelines
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly PMs for facility, grounds and all auxiliary equipment
  • Monitor Daily reports of all maintenance personal work order and pm completions
  • Document repairs, changes, and modifications made during PM's within CMMS
  • Administrative skills for ordering supplies and scheduling maintenance.
  • Monitor and assist with maintaining of spare parts inventory
  • Assist in documenting Preventive Maintenance Procedures
  • Provide department manager with written updates of project status, downtime, events and equipment reliability
  • Perform work with sound judgment, professional interaction and tact
  • Complete PM's of Packaging, production, and support equipment as assigned
  • Initiate and support continuous improvement and elimination of waste and variation in processes using established improvement processes
  • Must develop cooperative relationships with other departments
  • All other duties as necessary to the success of Balchem Corporation

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience desired
  • 2 years of technical degree preferred
  • Computer literate in Windows environment required
  • Manufacturing environment experience desired
  • Knowledge of food GMP's is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for discussing maintenance issues
  • Sensitive to other cultures/backgrounds, able to work in a multi-cultural workplace
  • Demonstrated ability for detail orientated work
  • Demonstrated ability to work and cross train in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team atmosphere
  • Ability and willingness to learn, understand, and follow documented work procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced environment while moving multiple simultaneous projects forward

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
  • Occasionally required to kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, ascend and descend stairs and/or ladders
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Physical strength and dexterity to lift, move and handle equipment.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • This job is performed in a packaging and production environment in a manufacturing location
  • The noise level in the plant is moderate to loud
  • There will be exposure to machine noise and food dust when in the plant
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and with or around various chemicals
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration and risk of electric shock
  • Some of the job duties are performed in the outdoor elements which include but are not limited to: heat, cold, snow, rain, ice and wind
  • Packaging and Production environment includes varying temperatures (heat, cold and moisture)
  • While performing certain job duties, employees may be exposed to allergens of the industry such as eggs, wheat, peanuts, dairy products, tree nuts, and soy products, as well as latex and powders
