Summary: Laboratory assistants are responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tasks, including routine lab maintenance, preparation of samples, equipment and/or inventory for genotyping, data entry, and assisting Lab Technicians across specialized platforms and other duties as assigned by a Supervisor or Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following, other duties may be assigned.

• Performs preferential duties essential to quality high throughput data generations associated with platform specific technology.
• Assist in sample, reagent, and inventory preparations as assigned.
• Accurately keeps records which includes but is not limited to laboratory notebooks, lot record tracking, sample archives, LIMS and/or repository as necessary.
• Assists in cataloging and accurate and usable inventory of all platform/vender specific supplies, reagents and chips.
• Assists in maintaining the laboratory including alerting appropriate personnel when there is a need for ordering supplies and/or equipment, calibrating instruments, performing preventative maintenance, following established cleaning protocols and assuring a clean and safe environment.
• Gain and maintain the ability to properly clean and perform selective maintenance on specified electronic, robotic and hand-held equipment crucial to platform processing.
• Maintain consistency and quality in learned lab techniques and procedures within an ever changing and fluid work environment.
• Creates, allocates and processes order requests within all processing labs.
• Ensures quality products by following established SOPs accurately and efficiently, supports ISO procedures
• Strives to meet and exceed individual and department goals and objectives.
• Other duties as assigned/requested through Supervisors and/or Managers.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word Processing and Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software. Ability to learn and navigate internal LIMS user interface.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to maintain high attention to detail in routine tasks.
