Job Objective:

Responsible for completing and communicating the internal and external financial statements (statutory and GAAP) for one or more companies within the BHHC group. Working knowledge of the impact of updates published by the NAIC that document required statutory accounting / reporting procedures. Assist in accounting, reporting and reconciliation of BHHC transactions / balances, including investments, technical entries and underwriting expenses. Update working papers for one or more companies and/or divisions. Assist in driving on-going process improvement in financial reporting, management reporting and work paper documentation. Assist in transactional processing, such as agent commission statements, preparing escheat reports, 1099 processing, keying journal entries into general ledger, researching account variances and basic financial analysis. Provide controller and company accountants support as needed.

Major Duties:

  • Gather financial information from various sources and prepare internal / external financial statements (Statutory and GAAP) for one or more Companies within BHHC. Communicate results of operations in a manner requested by Company leadership. Prepare summary work papers and account reconciliations that support various Company account balances.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of company investment and miscellaneous cash accounts, as well as basic general ledger account reconciliations. Provide controller and company accountants with support in preparing schedules and research/analysis for more difficult account reconciliations
  • Develop working knowledge of core operational processes of BHHC such as commissions, cash receipts and general disbursement workflow for the purpose of being conversant with personnel involved. Understand how changes in guidelines and procedures may impact job duties, agent/customer relations and financial activities. Communicate user needs for evaluating enhancements to current systems, assist in the testing of new software applications and assists in the implementation of new technologies as they pertain to commission / disbursement activities.
  • Assist in developing, testing, evaluating and implementing business rule changes and upgrades to transactional systems. Serve as liaison between BHHC Finance and the various business units to communicate changes to the system.
  • Summarize various statistics and information pertaining to accounting records including account balances, variance items, commission balances and rates for company finance personnel.
  • Assist other company accountants by keying journal entries to the general ledger as needed.
  • Perform other related duties, special projects or administrative task as assigned by management or as situations dictate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in business administration, accounting, or related field or equivalent
  • General accounting principles
  • Financial reporting principles
  • Personal computer, related software, and core applications such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Statutory accounting principles
  • Company and department practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of investment types
  • 1-2 years related work experience
