Job description
A NIH-funded postdoctoral position in the laboratory of a Primary Investigator (PI) in Microbiology is available for highly motivated candidates who are interested in prion diseases. Our group studies prion strain biology, prion pathogenesis and the environmental fate of prions. We are interested in training a motivated postdoctoral fellow in areas of prion pathogenesis using a combination of in vivo transmission studies and cutting-edge in vitro techniques. We are interested in understanding the molecular basis of how environmentally relevant prions efficiently cross the epithelium and establish infection. The selected candidate will be expected to develop the project independently and will also have the opportunity to interact and participate in other studies of our multidisciplinary group of prion researchers. Our group highly values creativity and independence in a collaborative and collegial academic environment.
Successful candidates will have a recent doctorate in areas related to protein misfolding diseases or virology, supported by strong publications. Prior experience in disease pathogenesis would be advantageous.
This position is 100% grant funded.
This position will work Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm, depending upon research needs position may require evening, weekend, and holiday work.

Qualifications:
Doctorate Degree in areas related to protein misfolding diseases or virology;
1-3 years experience;
Prior experience in disease pathogenesis preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong ability to interpret data and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues;
Strong work ethic;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to work independently;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook;
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs
