A Brief Summary of This Position:

Successful communication and promotion of a competitive total rewards program supports the recruitment and retention of Valmont's workforce. The Senior Benefits & Compensation Analyst supports the Director in managing relationships with vendors and consultants, developing material, and implementing communication tools to educate employees on the value proposition of the company's total rewards programs. This position is accountable for all aspects of specified company benefit plans (examples include health and welfare, wellness, voluntary benefits and retirement plans). This person is responsible for regulatory compliance, auditing, benefit vendor management, communications, customer service, and guidance on plan design for HR System management. Additionally, this individual helps support the compensation programs for the organization. The person in this role will have the opportunity to perform research and analysis of benefit programs to determine trends and make recommendations for change.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports into the Director Total Rewards and has no direct reports
  • Assists in the development and implementation of global total rewards programs, policies, and procedures to enhance the programs, comply with legislation, and/or reduce costs
  • Responsible for the communication of these changes/modifications to the employee population
  • Oversees the day to day internal and external administration/performance of programs, interprets plan design to evaluate and direct the handling of benefit issues and actively works to revamp procedures, resolve issues, and attain a high level of vendor performance during Open Enrollment and throughout the year, e.g., claims payments, file error reports, Open Enrollment activity, 401k provisions ensuring compliance in all areas
  • Partners with HRIS for HR system support with the benefit offerings and Open Enrollment to efficiently maximize benefit processes and procedures and ensure all procedures are developed, documented tested and periodically reviewed
  • Creates and runs reports/queries for auditing purposes and benefit and compensation analytics
  • Partners with payroll to ensure deductions and other payroll functions are correctly calculated
  • Partners with IT to manage or implement any new or existing file transfers
  • Performs research to identify current trends with total rewards, new laws, and regulation changes
  • Analyzes benefit enrollment and trends, making recommendations regarding products and offerings
  • Participates in external total rewards surveys and summarizes survey findings
  • Makes recommendations for new total rewards plans or changes to existing plans based on laws/regulations, feedback, and market competitiveness
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly analysis of costs for benefit programs as they compare to outside industries as well as internal comparisons across plan years
  • Guides all HR representatives and provides direction to the People Resource Center, serving as an ongoing reference and provides direction regarding complex, unusual situations
  • Provides support for acquisitions to assist in a smooth transition into the benefit system and programs
  • Maintains all records and documentation as appropriate to demonstrate and fulfill regulatory compliance including contracts, benefit welfare plan documents, etc.
  • Must continually upgrade knowledge of total rewards plans, regulatory requirements through participation in certification courses, related college courses, seminars, or training

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or associate degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience
  • Five years of professional experience in benefits administration with a multi-state employer, including HR systems administration
  • Professional experience with compensation program administration
  • Working knowledge of various total rewards plans, insurance, and federal compliance regulations (COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and others)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, to interact with all levels of employees
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced organizational skills essential for meeting tight deadlines, as well as managing multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, advanced Excel skills, as well as HRIS/benefit vendor reporting
  • Ability to travel within the U. S. (5-10%)

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Minimal travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
