Job description
The Director of Technology (DoT), is a key leader at NHPR, responsible for maintaining and advancing the broadcast and digital infrastructure underlying our vital news and information services, as well as the information technology that support our daily operations. The DoT's responsibilities span broadcast operations, information technology, engineering functions, broadcast transmission/distribution services and a suite of digital products and delivery systems. The DoT is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining the station's technical infrastructure. He/she serves as Chief Operator of all FCC licensed facilities, ensuring full compliance with FCC rules and regulations, CPB standards and other applicable laws and policies.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage all aspects of technology for NHPR, including broadcast engineering, information technology and studio operations. Remain abreast of the latest developments in digital, broadcast and business technology.
- Lead the assessment, implementation, and support of software or business applications considering compatibility with NHPR's technology environment and long-range plans, risks, benefits, efficiencies, shelf-life, maintenance and costs.
- Establish, update, and maintain standard operating procedures and technology policies/protocols that ensure secure, efficient and quality performance of NHPR technology systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements, including FCC and CPB filings.
- Oversees the digital operations of radio's technical facilities and the ongoing maintenance of the interactive platforms.
- Manage the technology team, ensuring the staff's technical proficiency, professional development, performance management and job engagement.
- Recruit talented, diverse IT and Technology staff as needed.
- Ensure that technology departments are responsive and communicative about issues that arise within the organization and with other relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee business continuity and recovery systems for natural disasters and any other unforeseen events that could affect operations, security and maintenance.
- Create a cohesive and future-oriented technical plan that reflects the needs of a complex and changing technology ecosystem. Translate technical capabilities into business decisions that are integrated into NHPR's Strategic Plan and capital budget.
- Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping NHPR leadership team informed of all critical issues.
- Provide leadership and direction for long-term strategic planning, resource allocation and organizational design for broadcast/technology strategies.
- Represent the organization externally as necessary, particularly regarding NHPR's Broadcast Technology Center in Concord and its transmitter sites across the state.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelors in Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a technology leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing and supporting computers and network infrastructure.
- Experience with digital audio formats and technology for mobile and emerging platforms.
- Experience evaluating and negotiating contractor and vendor bids
- Knowledge of FM/HD Transmitters, antenna systems, digital and analog broadcasting equipment, satellite technology, FCC rules and regulations for licensed broadcast facilities and public broadcasting.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- This is a primarily in-office position, with some flexibility for remote work.
