About the role
Primary Purpose:
To evaluate raw materials, in process, and finished products as well as provide tangible support to the quality function in meeting department goals.
Working Environment:
Laboratory environment with exposure to production environment.
Key responsibilities
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Carry out sensory, physical, chemical, and / or instrumental evaluation of raw materials, in process, or finished products following SOP and specifications.
2. Expedite the evaluation process and final disposition and provide accurate information to production.
3. Develop and maintain specifications for raw materials and finished products.
4. Trouble shoots quality problems in production.
5. Compound flavor samples for projects as required.
6. Participate in the development of special processes to improve quality.
7. Generate data for MSDS and specification & technical sheets.
8. Participate in sensory evaluations as a panelist.
9. Maintain laboratory data, files, supplies, and calibrate equipment on a regular schedule as well as maintaining databases.
10. Actively work on the corrective actions of any customer complaints / issues.
11. Follows all quality, safety, and company protocols & procedures.
12. May perform other duties as required by the department.
Qualifications and skills
Minimum Requirements:
Associates Degree in Chemistry, Food Science or in a related applied science discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a manufacturing-based laboratory preferably in the food ingredients industry segment.
OR
BSC. in Chemistry, Food Science or in a related applied science discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing-based laboratory preferably in the food ingredients industry segment.
A. Analytical and problem-solving skills*.*
Physical Requirements:
Must participate in sensory (flavor, odor) evaluations on a variety of products as essential oils, compounded liquid flavors, powdered products and raw materials.
Must be able to:
Stand and work at a lab bench for long periods of time.
Operate analytical equipment for chemical and physical measurements
Interpret results and provide recommendations.
