Job description
Job Summary. The Sr. Director BD executes the BD strategy with a primary focus on search, evaluation and diligence while leading a team of Search and Evaluation team members. Job Description: Lead the identification, evaluation and execution of licensing, acquisition, investment, and partnership opportunities across a range of therapeutic areas and assets. Core member of deal negotiation team to ensure ongoing input throughout the deal process. Together with the BD team oversee cross-functional diligence for opportunities identified as being of interest and moved to due-diligence in the Otsuka BD process. Support the execution of complex analytics to assess opportunities (e.g., comparable deal analysis and financial modeling/NPV analysis). Work with pre-clinical, clinical, regulatory and other teams to develop the target profile and clinical plans for opportunities in diligence. Support the diligence activities for all transactions (e.g., preparing and setting up diligence files, financing documents, etc.). Work closely with other Global Business Development (GBD) members as well as the relevant BUs/Corporate functions (e.g, Finance, Legal, Operations) to influence ways of working globally to ensure continuous improvement of the Business Development search approach and evaluation process. Support the development of a company strategy for maximum value creation and the development/refinement of a business / corporate development strategy that aligns with the company strategy. Develops and maintains key relationships across a broad sphere of influence, both internally and externally. Management of other members of the Business Development team. Knowledge/ Experience and Skills: A minimum of 10-12 years professional work experience with at least 4 years in pharmaceutical or biotech Business Development roles, investment banking and / or venture capital. Expertise and / or experience in neuroscience and / or immunology. Significant experience in biotech, pharma and / or digital health transactions required. Demonstrated ability to partner with executive leadership required. Understanding of scientific principles and the drug development process is recommended. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills and creativity in applying analytical frameworks to business issues are critical. Must be able to develop a comprehensive understanding of disparate complex and ambiguous situations and clearly frame the issues and questions presented. Excellent transactional, financial, business, and management expertise, as well as a strong capability and knowledge of early- and late-stage transactions. Creative solution mindset in developing deals. Project team experience within a highly-matrixed organization is required. Strong communication and influencing skills. Travel (~. Qualifications: Advanced science degree (required) and an advanced business degree (eg. MBA) (preferred, not required). Research experience in neuroscience and / or immunology. Demonstrated track record sourcing, prioritizing, diligencing, and significantly contributing and/or leading transactions to completion. Exceptional oral presentation and written communication skill; experience presenting to company executive management teams. Ability to work collaboratively with many different internal and external constituencies. Ability to manage multiple projects and tight timelines. Ability to interface with senior management internally and represent Otsuka with external parties.
