Job Summary

Otsuka is looking for an accomplished technically strong Data and Quantitative Scientist in their Medical and Real World Data Analytics (MRWDA) organization. The role will support the organization through the use of advanced data sciences expertise to make inference from clinical data, data from sensors, and other real-world data sets. The prospective candidate will have an excellent knowledge of advanced methods, and experience in applying those methods to a variety of Real World Data sets to generate real-world evidence for regulatory, scientific, or demonstrating other forms of product value. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic open to grow and work with a team of scientists and practitioners from different functional areas to solve practical problems.

Job Description

  • Design, conduct data analyses, interpretation and presentation of analyses results to the internal team and stakeholders. Ensure quality and timelines are met.
  • Work closely with internal data science and data programming, and external stakeholders including Medical Affairs, Value and Real-World Evidence to provide end-to-end advanced analytics.
  • Develop high-quality, comprehensive study proposals or protocols containing clearly defined patient populations, study objectives, and study design that can be readily and correctly implemented.
  • Provide input to the design of databases, analytics platform features, or its update, including proper data capture, organization, and automated analyses
  • Knowledge of various Real World Data assets and their appropriateness for use in generating evidence for regulatory, payor, scientific understanding, etc.
  • Keep abreast with developments in the field of real-world data, its use, and analytics to enable suitable evidence from such data. Maintain a broad knowledge or real-world data and use cases
  • Identify research areas that merit investigation, develop new hypotheses and methodological approaches
  • Partner with the internal team and stakeholders and provide technical advice on data, appropriate analytics methodologies and the limitations of evidence. Take ownership of delivering analyses in a timely manner to support evidence needs for various stakeholders.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to explore new opportunities for deriving evidence towards characterizing or reinforcing value for therapeutic solutions by leveraging non-traditional analytical approaches
  • Act as advanced analytics SME in leading and conducting analyses to answer most pressing questions across business functions in the remit of responsibility
  • Establish operational objectives and work plans, timelines, and delegate/monitor assignments given to contract workers or junior team members
  • Contribute to and advance multiple projects, analyses and their designs simultaneously.
  • Serve as lead and represent the MRWDA team in one or two products. Deliver measurable results through data and analyses for the product of responsibility. Influence cross functional stakeholders on the product team
  • Grow in advanced analytics as well stakeholder management, influence, and in applying novel analytics for new ways of generating effective evidence

Qualifications

Required

  • A PhD or Masters in data sciences, engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related quantitative science field.
  • 6+ year of experience in designing, delivering advanced analytics, including 3+ years in leading and managing a team of advanced analytics scientists
  • Understanding of a broad array of data science methodologies to design or oversee the development of quantitative (data science, machine learning) models for various types of datasets
  • Deep expertise and hands on experience working with large complex datasets from the real world
  • Demonstrated experience in applying Machine Learning to at least one of the areas: Computer Vision, NLP/NLG/text analytics, Deep Learning (CNN, LSTM, ResNets, …), building machine learning model from large data sets, social network analysis, sensor data, healthcare data analytics, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of the data structure and limitations of various types of real-world databases, and experience in working with large EMR or claims database are preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming with excellent development and data analyses skills using state-of-the-art technologies and languages (python, R, Matlab, or other scripting languages)
  • Demonstrated ability to design and/or oversee approaches for analyzing diverse data, including text/documents, sensor data, time-series or longitudinal data, surveys, and other varieties of health data
  • Extensive hands on technical and project management and working with contract resources or service providers
  • Extensive experience with Real World Data Analyses using advanced analytics methods, and data science problem formulations on clinical, claims, and/or other real world data sets
  • Experience driving large, complex change efforts and driving results through influence, persuasion, and outcomes-oriented relationships
  • Participate in designing the strategy, roadmap, building the team, mentoring, coaching, and development of talent and resources
  • Ability of effectively collaborate with in the team and with stakeholders to take ownership of analyses, timelines, and high quality delivery
  • Work with extended teams, external service providers/vendors, Industry or Academic collaborators, manage budget and ensure quality deliverable for the group
  • Ability to explain complex ideas to diverse audiences and keeping objectives in mind
  • Ability to present and defend advanced analytics at stakeholder meetings, Industry forums and other external meetings
  • Expertise in statistical and quantitative methods, (e.g. machine learning, data mining) and their applications to various types of data
  • Proficiency in the use of modern data and analytics platforms, including cloud environments, such as AWS and GCP
  • Demonstrated experience and accomplishments in applying quantitative models to real life problems across disciplines
  • Strong technical writing, editing, and communication skills along with collaborative mindset that enables and empowers others
  • Finally, a desire backed by will and commitment to make a positive difference to human health

Preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information to develop recommendations, and influence organization on a recommended path
  • Experience with sensor data, digital data, and other type of unstructured and structured data
  • Experience with latest statistical methods and Data Science
  • Experience with mathematical modeling and simulation
  • Experience with Real World Data Analyses in CNS, Nephrology, or Digital Medicine
