Job Title: Manager, Employee Relations

Department: Human Resources

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary: Consults department managers in the planning, development and implementation of policies and practices relating to all phases of human resources activity. Consults hospital staff in the interpretation of policies and procedures, especially as related to the discipline and appeal process. Ensures that work flow processes for assigned areas within the department operate efficiently. Provides direction and support to Human Resource staff as needed. Oversees the employment and compensation functions for all positions within the Hospital.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Five to seven years of progressively more responsible experience in human resources in a managerial capacity.

Thorough knowledge of Federal and State regulations regarding employment practices and regulatory agency requirements regarding Human Resources Management. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing and to lead presentations, training programs and effective meetings. Ability to form strong workplace relationships at all levels of the organization.

Certification: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred

Essential Functions of the Job:

* Assist department managers in the identification and development of performance improvement plans.
* Provide counseling to managers and staff to resolve problems and mediate disputes. Coordinates second step appeal process according to hospital policy.
* Ensure fair and equitable employment practices are followed in the areas of recruitment, employee relations and benefits & compensation.
* Represents the hospital at outside agency investigations of employee complaints and litigation related to termination of employment and other contested disciplinary actions.
* Builds partnerships with all levels of employees from individuals to teams, from entry level to executive leadership.
* Coaches and advises staff on solving problems and implementing resolutions for performance management challenges; provides guidance on corrective actions, policy interpretation and other workplace human resources challenges.
* Presents and trains on HR related content and curriculum either through instructor lead training, group facilitated dialogues or one on one mentoring sessions.
* Participates in and supports the documentation of workplace complaints and allegations such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and hostile work environment and policy violations.
* Conducts exit interviews, analyzing trends or opportunities for feedback or improvement particularly in areas related to employee engagement.
* Assists in other special projects or other assignments as needed.
