Job Summary:
Chloeta is recruiting for one (5) Laboratory Technologists to support the mission of the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Service Unit (ACLSU).

Essential Functions:
- Provide medical laboratory technician services in the JSU Laboratory;
- Responsible for acting as receptionist, phlebotomist, and performing routine laboratory waived testing, such as urinalysis, hematology, serology, microbiology, chemistry, kit testing, referral services and other CLIA waived duties as required by staff medical technologists;
- Share responsibility and workload requirements with other staff members for quality control, quality assurance and CLIA compliance;
- Conducts and provides technical consultation to other staff and clinical providers in specimen collection and preparation procedures;
- Performs phlebotomies, accessions requests, in RPMS and EHR, and ensures accuracy of testing, reporting and billing;
- Performs routine waived tests, reports test results, and ensures accuracy of reports by insuring correctness of quality control and quality assurance procedures;
- Consults with supervisor and providers on abnormal results. Identifies specimens that should be referred for additional or confirmatory testing. Ensures timely return of referral specimens;
- Ensures that policies and procedures as well as safety practices are effectively followed and shares responsibility for ensuring compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards;
- Required to respond to inquiries for patient reports from providers, ensuring appropriate Turn-around times for reference laboratory reports and will be responsible for maintaining patient records (reference lab requests/reports as well as instrument in-lab reports) in a readily retrievable fashion;
- Responsible for faxing records and reports.
- Comply with all IHS Privacy Act, HIPAA, and Ethical regulations;
- Adhere to all IHS Standards of Conduct and be courteous and respectful to all internal and external customers of the JSU;
- Maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times;

Duty Schedule:
- Work shift: 8 Hours (8:00 am to 4:30 pm) with 30 minute unpaid lunch.
- Any absence from scheduled work shifts requires prior approval by the Government representative or designee. Approval of leave is contingent upon availability of a qualified replacement.
- Absences of three (3) or more consecutive days due to illness require documentation from a qualified healthcare provider stating: (1) the cause of the current illness or incapacitation; AND (2) indicating the staff member as contagious or non-contagious to the Government. The Government reserves the right to examine and/or re-examine any individual who meets the criteria.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):
- Demonstrated ability in effective oral and written communication;
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills;
- Ability to listen and accept constructive criticism;
- Ability to prioritize tasks;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
- Experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position in a clinical laboratory.
Required Education and Experience:
- Associates OR Bachelors Degree OR diploma from an Accredited Medical Laboratory program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by applicant.
- Laboratory Technologist must possess a current, valid, unrestricted certification/ license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Work will be routinely conducted five (5) days per week with occasional periods of overtime.
- This position is primarily performed in an office or laboratory setting, a controlled office environment
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, standing in the lab and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- A Certificate of Immunizations is required.
- All required PPE and identification badges will be provided to staff

Disaster Response:
Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official PD. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
