JOB POSITION #43: LIFEGUARD I
NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1+

HIRING RANGE: $10.50 per hour
TYPE OF POSITION: Temporary, Part-Time
DAYS WORKED: Varied to Include Weekends

JOB DUTIES
To apply for this position you must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. If you do not have one, but are interested in taking an American Red Cross certification course, please contact the Farmington Aquatic Center at for information on classes available.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Works under the supervision of the Assistant Aquatics Manager and Lifeguard Shift Supervisor.
Performs CPR, first aid and water rescues on active or passive victims, when necessary.
Monitors the use of the swimming pool; enforces safety rules.
Patrols the swimming pool and aquatics facility.
Assists in implementing various aquatics activities throughout the year.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, collecting fees, or helping set up for classes.
Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs made by telephone.
Handles money and operates cash register.
Maintains related records and statistics for various aquatics programs.
Assists in the maintenance of the swimming pool.
Uses various hand tools in the maintenance of swimming pool equipment, pool testing equipment, phone, cash register.
Under supervision or assistance of Lifeguard II or Shift Supervisor, handles chemicals such as chlorine, celite, CO2, and muriatic acid.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs custodial and cleaning duties of pool and pool facility. Operates pool vacuum and therapy lift.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Extensive background checks required.
Must have current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification, and American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate.
Must be certified in CPR/First Aid/AED or have the ability to obtain such within the first year of employment.
Working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive aquatics program.
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively orally; ability to give and understand oral instructions.
This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically able to perform all rescue skills, including backboard rescue and deep water lift.
