Overview:
Our mission is to drive closer collaboration between M&T and the venture and fintech worlds. We believe there is value in the creation of a network of influencers to accelerate learning and new opportunity development to help accelerate M&T Bank's mission. The Corporate Ventures and Product Innovation group, combines strategy, thought leadership and execution to shape M&T Bank's evolution. The team has capabilities across strategy, investment, fintech, partnership development and research. Working in partnership with M&T Bank's business lines, as well as the broader financial services ecosystem, the Ventures and Product Innovation team identifies and analyzes trends, emerging challenges and expansion opportunities. The team focuses on forward-thinking opportunities whether they concern clients, vendors, Fintechs or employees.
Primary Responsibilities:
The position is a new to the bank and is a leadership role within our Ventures and Product Innovation Group. As a Ventures Development Manager, you will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver on the strategy to build mindshare in the fintech, startup and venture communities. Your responsibilities will include driving business insights within M&T Bank and within the Fintech ecosystem. You will work closely with senior business leaders and technology leaders to drive strategic interactions with startups to long-term business opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess both a business background to drive engagement and effectively interact with Venture Partner/CxO/VP level startup executives as well as a technical background to allow them to work effectively with technologists. The candidate should possess the ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product and technical opportunities.
Serve as a key member of the Ventures and Product Innovation team and help drive the overall M&T market and technical strategy
Develop and manage relationships with top venture firms and startup companies. Provide insight and mentorship to our partners and internally
Create strategic business development plan working in collaboration with key M&T stakeholders (business leaders, technology leaders, legal, finance, etc.)
Engage with management on existing pain points/ business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels
Develop and nurture a pipeline of Fintech opportunities; tracking, valuing, negotiating, executing and following through to internal integration
Work with and advise senior leaders regarding key themes and strategic perspectives
Prepare and give business reviews regarding partnership progress
Engage and develop relationships with Fintechs and VC executives
Participate in industry events/ organizations as a thought leader
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelors' degree and a minimum of 9 years' relevant experience a Financial Institution, premier consulting company or from an investment bank (M&A, Capital Markers, Equity Research, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 9 years' relevant experience a Financial Institution, premier consulting company or from an investment bank (M&A, Capital Markers, Equity Research
Ability to analyze problems, apply quantitative analytical approaches
Ability to communicate effectively and confidently (both oral and written)
Ability to work well in cross-functional teams
Ability to identify and proactively develop new strategic and business development opportunities
Experience working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
Highly adept at navigating cross functional business processes and Industry trends
Education and Experience Preferred:
Executive / leadership experience working on innovation, startup operating experience and/or venture investment experience.
MBA or an advanced business degree from a top-tier program
Ability to rapidly engage a diverse audience of internal/ external stakeholders, including senior management
In depth understanding of the company's various functions and business processes
