Job description

Brut is a leading global video publisher. Were a young, independent and multilingual digital media company producing compelling journalism in new formats. After becoming the most-watched news publisher on social media in Europe and South Asia, were now quickly growing in the US market.

We are looking for a visionary editor in chief to oversee editorial operations at Brut America. This person, who will report to the VP North America, will be expected to define and execute the editorial strategy, direct the daily news file and lead a growing team of reporters.

This is a position based in New York.

What you will do:

* Oversee all national editorial teams including reporters, editors, community managers, and staff specific to social media platforms
* Define the editorial scope with a mission of bringing value to the public
* Run a deadline-driven newsroom thats quick, nimble and ahead of the news curve
* Grow Brut Americas reach and brand, and engage social media audiences, using data insights effectively
* Maintain the overall quality and tone of stories to ensure each one stays on brand
* Head the daily edit meet to ensure the most compelling angles are chosen, give feedback on pitches and commission stories that need to be told
* Approve videos for publication with the highest editorial standards in mind
* Set the agenda and own certain beats and areas of coverage
* Hire, manage and mentor the editorial teams with clear responsibilities for each member
* Develop an efficient workflow between teams to ensure a strong pipeline of stories and a collaborative work culture
* Create fresh programming and innovate new forms of storytelling on platforms
* Embrace equity and inclusion in all actions and stay true to the values of the company

Requirements

* 10 + years in journalism including a track record as a newsroom leader
* Excellent instincts as an editor with rock-solid news judgment to jump on a story quickly
* Data-driven and familiar with how to use different social media platforms to reach and serve new audiences
* Proven ability to produce video content and develop programming that resonates with the public
* Seasoned editor gifted at recognising the strongest angle in a story and driving reporters to do their best work
* Thoughtful about story mix and platform-specific distribution of content
* Good grasp of digital video script structure
* Excellent communication, collaboration, and delegation skills
* Calm under pressure and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
* Attention to detail, journalistic rigor and accuracy a must
* Passionate about the news business
* Startup experience a plus but not necessary
