Business Development - Manages a cash sales team of business development professionals. At this level, team composition usually covers multiple industry categories and/or a geographic regions or sub-regions. Guides and collaborates with team members on sources of new business opportunities and prospects, often developing a pipeline of new clients him/herself. Conducts market research and analyses to identify areas of pursuit. Ensures that prospecting activities of the team align with business unit goals and objectives and are focused on responsible business growth that is compliant, of acceptable risk and profitable. Identifies the markets and areas for future growth and development and ensure staff are deployed accordingly. Contributes to setting the functional direction of business development in support of business unit goals. For some areas of the Bank, may be responsible for achieving organic incremental growth from existing clients. Develops and implements the operating model for assigned team(s).

Owns the business development pipeline and campaign management for assigned area as well as responsible for managing his/her own accounts . Will work closely with distribution team, external clients and internal business partners across BNY Mellon to grow and retain assets. Deploys procedures/tactics to assigned team and manages the teams adherence to and success in applying them. Serves as an advisor to team on particularly complex or intricate issues regarding prospect needs, deal structure, negotiations, priorities, compliance, regulations, etc. Establishes guiding principles or standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of approach across the team. Reviews and approves deal structure ensuring optimal terms for both the client and the firm and mitigating risk where necessary. Ensures deals are compliant with all regulations. Ensures team members have access to the right firm-wide resources (marketing, legal, compliance, etc.) to ensure the most appropriate response to prospect proposals and deal structure. Contributes to the development of key metrics and sales analyses that will gauge the success of business development activities within the team.

Tracks and reports on business development results for assigned area (geographic, business/industry category, product category, etc.)Recruits, directs, motivates and develops staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team. Provides feedback at the most critical times. Continually coaches and monitors skill development of the team, ensuring that team members have access to and take advantage of formal and informal training opportunities, foster mentorships, etc. Actively sources for key roles and identifies candidates with existing relationships that would supplement the Banks relationships. Manages a team of business development staff. Responsible for revenue goals within assigned area (geographic territory, product category, business/industry category or segment, etc.) and setting revenue generation plans and targets. For some areas of the Bank, may be responsible for achieving organic incremental growth from existing clients. Has human resources management and financial resource management responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Advanced/graduate degree preferred.
  • Typically requires 7-10 years of total work experience and 1-3 years of management experience preferred, preferably in short term cash sales with customer-facing experience .
