Summary: The Network Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining the Newtek mission-critical data and voice infrastructure. In this hands-on position, the Network Engineer will frequently participate in the design and implementation of wired and wireless networks in a variety of different locations. The Network Engineer will also assist with providing daily operational support of the organizations enterprise network.
Essential Duties:
•Investigate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and provide resolution to existing data and voice environments.
•Participate in an on-call rotation to provide support of a 24x7 operation.
•Assist System Administrators in maintaining the enterprise network monitoring systems.
•Onsite visits as necessary to facilitate network projects or support issues for locations across the country.
•Participate in new circuit turn up and facilitate testing and circuit hand over.
•Design, implement, and support facility infrastructure at multiple locations within the organization.
•Assist in network upgrades including developing, testing, evaluating, and installation of network enhancements.
•Plan, create, schedule, perform, and manage network activities in real-time, mission-critical operational environments.
•Responsible for support and maintenance of the WAN, LAN, and WLAN for both data and VoIP infrastructure including MPLS, IPsec VPN's, and dedicated internet circuits consisting of Cable, DSL, and Metro Ethernet technologies.
•Follow incident management guidelines to ensure all incidents are accurately documented for historical records and root cause analysis.
•Documentation of network systems to include; Visio drawings, job aids, project plans, implementation plans, and handoff documentation.
•Ensure change management guidelines are followed while coordinating change activity.
•Provide operational support of organizations firewalls.
•Act as a liaison between internal users/staff and Telco/Network carriers related to network activities.
•Manage several small to medium sized network projects simultaneously.
•Participate as a department resource for all network related activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•In-depth understanding of:
oExtreme, Brocade, and Juniper Routers
oFortiGate and SonicWALL Firewalls
oAruba Switches
•In-depth knowledge of BGP, OSPF, VRRP, STP, and RIP
•Ability to manage medium to large sized, moderately to highly complex network projects.
•Working knowledge of EDI / Disaster Recovery concepts and applications.
•Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor.
•Ability to collaborate with other teams and departments within the organization.
•Ability to work with outside vendors and telecommunications carriers.
•Ability to effectively communicate highly technical concepts and solutions to audiences of widely varying skill levels.
•Understanding of network access methods including but not limited to Cellular, Wired/Wireless, Cable, DSL, T1, and Metro Ethernet.
•Excellent analytical, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills.
•Detail oriented, organized, and the ability to prioritize workload efficiently.
•Cisco CCNA preferred
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience in a hands-on role providing network engineering and support.
